Elements of Art
The Elements of Art are the building blocks for a work of art. They are the ingredients of the 'cake'. Artists use the elements in planned and organized ways. They are organized according to the Principles of Design. This could be considered as the 'recipe' for the 'cake'. |

LineA dot moving through space. Lines can have different qualities and energy. They can be thick or thin, wavy or zig-zag and much more.

FormForms have three dimensions: height, width, and depth. Artist can create an implied form (like the forms drawn above on a flat sheet of paper) or they can create a sculpture which is three-dimensional.

TextureTexture is the surface quality of objects or how they may feel to the sense of touch. Textures can be rough, smooth, furry, scaly, bumpy, and much more.

COLOR
ROYGBIV (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet) is the visual color spectrum of light. Artists use the color wheel to determine color relationships. |
SHAPE
Shape is an enclosed space with a defined boundary. They are two-dimensional with length and width. Shapes can be geometric (squares, circles, triangles etc.) or free form and organic (shapes of clouds, flowers, water puddles, etc.). |
VALUE
Value is the lightness and darkness of tones or colors. Artists use many different techniques to create a variety of values in their work. |

Space refers to areas or distances around, between, or within a work. Space can be positive or negative, open or closed, shallow or deep, two-dimensional or three-dimensional.
